As Copyranter points out, the following commercial for a photo retouching agency is very sexist and makes fun of those of us who are dentally challenged with a little more junk in our trunk i.e., the average American. However, the ad does make a positive point regarding the awesome power of Photoshop.

The mass media constantly surrounds us with digitally altered images of women that are flawless to the extreme. And we eat them up. It ain't real folks. It's time we stopped buying into this bullshit.

If you think Kim Kardashian looks that perfect in real life, you are seriously deluded. Even someone as young and gorgeous as she is still subjected to the retoucher's art - as these photos aptly demonstrate. In the one on the right, her skin has been lightened and smoothed, her waist and thighs whittled down, and her body streamlined so there's no hint of cottage cheese (cellulite).

The young girls who grow up exposed to this crap come away with a very distorted view of female beauty, which impacts how they view themselves. Simply put, we are breeding  female self-hatred with every click of the mouse. I don't know why we can't leave somethings untouched and show more diverse images of beauty. I think Kim is just as gorgeous in the photo on the left. By the way, if the think this commercial is far-fetched, you are wrong. I have Photoshop on my computer, and truly it can make the Incredible Hulk look like Angelina Jolie.

first kiss on film
The first kiss on film occurred in 1896 during the performance of a Broadway play called The Widow Jones and featured actors John Rice and May Irwin as the lip lockers. During the closing scene of the play, this short Thomas Edison distributed piece was shown to the audience and immediately caused a huge uproar among theater goers.

Some scandalized moralists called for police intervention to prevent further presentations of this sordid osculation! And one horrified critic sputtered that

"The spectacle of the prolonged pasturing on each other's lips was beastly enough in life size on the stage but magnified to gargantuan proportions and repeated three times over it is absolutely disgusting"

Jeez, talk about a lot of commotion for a little spit trading! Anyway, the Library of Congress now considers the film a culturally significant treasure and has preserved it in the National Film Registry.

So, Happy Valentine's Day from Lilith Land xoxo.

I have been wanting to see this documentary on the pharmaceutical companies quest to find a "female Viagra" for a while now. It looks like I won't have too much longer to wait. The movie "Orgasm Inc" is being released on February 11th. From what I have read, it is a searing indictment of the drug industry's quest to medicate female sexual dysfunction (FSD). Director Liz Canner first got involved with this project when she was hired to create erotic videos for drug companies to test out their various concoctions on female participants.

She soon discovered that medicating women was big business and that there were huge profits at stake in the race to find a workable female sex enhancer. To that end, Big Pharma was willing to twist the arm of sex educational authorities to define the waxing and waning of feminine desire as a dysfunction - all to make a quick buck. Or at least that seems to be the premise of the film. As someone who is spent four years researching FSD, I remain firmly on the fence regarding its existence. I think it is a very complex issue that in too many cases is dichotomized into black and white absolutes. I hope this film isn't playing into that mentality. Many women do have sexual problems, and some of these problems probably are rooted in physiological issues. A drug could be useful in some cases.

However, most of the research doesn't support the need for a "female Viagra" for most women. I am currently very interested in reading research on bioidentical hormones. As a woman who is in her mid forties, I know first hand the effects of hormonal changes on female desire. And I suspect that much of the physiological issues that some women deal with at my age could be helped by proper nutrition, exercise, and possible hormonal supplementation with bioidentical hormones. None of this requires a drug patent. Anyway, here is the trailer for the film, which will be opening to a limited release. But have no fear, it will be available on DVD soon.

Hi all, I decided to make my own video. So, here is my very first effort. I put together a little collection of trivia facts to Saving Abel's song "The Sex is Good". Hope you enjoy it.

When you consider how overweight, out of shape, sleep-deprived and just plain overworked the average American is, it's not surprising many people aren't in the mood. We live in a toxic environment that constantly exposes us to dangerous chemicals that can have a profound impact on how we feel and function sexually.

Artificial estrogenic chemicals called xenoestrogens in meats, pesticides, plastics, carpeting, car exhaust, and soy mimic the hormone estrogen and help to create a condition known as estrogen dominance in women. This means that estrogen (which rises during the first part of a woman's menstrual cycle) isn't opposed by the rise of progesterone during the second half of her cycle - or it isn't to the degree that it should be. According to the late Dr. John Lee, one of the consequences (among many) of this condition is that the plummeting progesterone levels can obliterate sexual desire. Elevated estrogen levels can also lower testosterone (the hormonal, big kahuna of lust) as well.
